Top 3 Fishing Plans
FishForward ranks three approaches for the selected water and target species so you have a backup plan if the first presentation is not producing.
How are you fishing?
Choose how you will be fishing so FishForward can tailor the Top 3 plans to the way you can actually access the water.
π Nearest Buoy Intelligence
Finding the nearest relevant Great Lakes observation stations for this fishing locationβ¦
Loading buoy observationsβ¦
FishForward uses nearby buoy water temperature, wind and wave observations as current-condition inputs. Readings are served from FishForward's server cache so every user can reuse the same latest station observation instead of repeatedly hitting the upstream provider. These readings supplement the Fishing Plan; they are not a substitute for official marine warnings or safe-navigation information.
How to use the three plans
Start with Plan #1. If you do not get bites after a reasonable amount of time, adjust location or presentation and move to Plan #2, then Plan #3. Conditions on the water should always override a beta recommendation.

Log Catch
Choose from the Michigan species catalog
Public catches with a length and one photo are entered in competitions automatically, including ones logged later. Fish are ranked against their speciesβ trophy size, so a 14" crappie can beat a 20" walleye. Future dates cannot be entered.

Competitions
Live FishForward competitions use real qualifying catches only. No demo standings are shown.
Competition rules β’ How catches are ranked and enteredFair Play
- Length is required. Every competition catch needs a measured length and exactly one photo. Weight is optional.
- Trophy score ranks every species fairly. Each fish is compared with its species' Michigan Master Angler size, so a 14" crappie (100%) beats a 20" walleye (69%).
- Weight is your edge. If two fish tie, a fish with a recorded weight beats one without, then the heavier fish wins, then the earlier entry keeps its place.
- Automatic entry. Public catches with a length and one photo enter Catch of the Year, Catch of the Week and the month's species boards automatically. Tap "Keep It Out" on the pop-up, or make the catch private, to stay off the boards.
- Current period only. Catches from the current week, month or year count, including ones logged later. Future dates are never accepted.
- Catch of the Year: Top 50 β’ the top 10 win Fishing Points: 1st 10,000 β’ 2nd 5,000 β’ 3rd 2,500 β’ 4th 1,000 β’ 5th 750 β’ 6th 500 β’ 7th 250 β’ 8thβ10th 100.
- Monthly species: the month's top species lock on the 15th β’ all 4 species free β’ Top 10 β’ on each species board 1st 1,500 β’ 2nd 750 β’ 3rd 250 points.
- Catch of the Week: MondayβSunday β’ Top 5 β’ 1st 250 β’ 2nd 100 β’ 3rd 50 points.
- When points are awarded. Points are added automatically the night a week, month or year ends, and you get an alert. Fishing Points count toward FishForward rewards.
- Sponsored events award the prizes listed on each event (1st Grand, 2nd Big, 3rd Small).
- Free to enter. Every FishForward competition is free. Pro membership is never required to enter or win.
- One spot per angler. Each board shows your best fish. Standings are verified before any prize is awarded.
